FANART - three covers for SGA fanfiction stories

Okay, first of all-- thank you for all the great suggestions and requests for coverart in my previous post. The work is going well and I'm still dilligently working on icons of all the different shows that were suggested, two more coverarts and a banner/wallpaper, but since three covers are finished, I decided to already post them.

In this post you'll find:

+ 1 cover for Pict Nae Scot, written by [info]inkscribe (Carson Beckett/Evan Lorne)
+ 1 cover for Equinox, written by [info]runpunkrun (John Sheppard/Rodney McKay)
+ 1 cover for Tourist, written by [info]seratonation (John Sheppard/Rodney McKay)

PREVIEW:

COVER for Pict Nae Scot

[info]inkscribe, when I read your incredibly beautiful story, the image that immediately came to mind was colours on skin. I tried to think of something that would include caps from Carson or Lorne, but I always came back to the faceless image of a man surrendering to the touch of another. So, I decided to go with my gut here and created something more anonymous, but if it's placed with the story, everyone will know that it's Carson up there. The images are actual Pictish images-- I did some research on the Internet.

Your story really inspired me and I loved making this. Hopefully you'll like it. :o)

(The background is supposed to be pitch black. I'm a little concerned that some monitors will make this cover look differently because the background looks lighter. So, if that's the case-- that's not the way this is supposed to be seen-- normally the background is completely black, covering the figure in shadows.)

COVER for Equinox

[info]runpunkrun, when I read your story, I was hit with the image of a field of nothing but red flowers. So, I set out to create something with that image in mind. I pictured John and Rodney, surrounded by these flowers-- John a little drunk, stumbling when Rodney finally manages to free him from the vines. I saw John leaning on Rodney as he lead him away. I just saw flowers everywhere. :o)

I ended up with a portrait of the guys, surrounded by red flowers, pouring out of the picture-- bleeding into the blue colours of a beautiful bright sunny afternoon.

I simply adored making this cover, so I hope you'll like it. :o)

COVER for Tourist

[info]seratonation, your story was so much fun to read. There are the boys-- a little sad to be back on Earth, but still happy to be together-- cruising the country, trying to find their balance. What a wonderful treat that was. :o)

I noticed that the cover you yourself created was basically a mix of the different elements of the story. So, I decided to make a collage that brings all the significant elements of the story together in one cover. It's a bit different from anything I've ever made before, but I really really like the way it turned out. I hope you don't mind that I used a picture of Joe and David, because I couldn't find any John or Rodney caps that had them wearing casual clothing one would wear on vacation on Earth. In my mind it's John and Rodney, asking another tourist to take their picture, John smiling at the camera and Rodney scowling at the guy/girl taking their picture because he/she had had the gall to smile seductively at John. :o)

The roadsign is just a roadsign I found in a picture. I'm not from the US, so I have no idea if it's representative or not-- or even if it contains the right information-- all I know is that it said California and I thought that was close enough. I really enjoyed making this and I hope you'll like it. :o)

RESOURCES:
» The textures used in the art are all mine.
» The images/pictures I used are all royalty free images
» The pictures of Joe and David are (sadly) not made by me. I found them somewhere on LJ, but I can't remember where. If anyone can refresh my memory, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Enjoy!

Thank you. :o) Coming from you that really means a lot, because you make the most awesome fanart drawings.

The last cover was great fun to make. That picture just screamed 'haughty Rodney and lazy John' to me. *g*

Thank you. :o) I'm a bit of a nitpicker when it comes to arty things. I rework everything at least 4 times before I'm completely satisfied with it.

I am just in awe of your talent - gorgeous and vivid, even in the pitch blackness of the first one.

Thank you. :o) I'm very happy with how the first cover turned out. I was a little worried that the black would become overpowering, but in the end it seemed to fit just right.

Oooh! I do love it! The colours are gorgeous. The black looks fab on my screen. I'll link from/post to the story later this week.

*squees*

I'm glad you liked the story and that you found it inspirational!

eta: in case it wasn't obvious ... thank you very much! (Home sick today and not thinking as clearly as I should before hitting the 'post' button, lol!)

YAY! I'm glad you love it. :o) The story was great-- it was all very sensual and I wanted to show that through the image.

Hope you'll be better soon. :o) It's no fun being sick.

:D:D:D:D:D

Dude you just totally made my week :D, its awesome! the surfboard and the helicopter and the Ferris wheel and the hat and the map!! *flails*

ok, so now im over the OMGLOVEIT! some coherentness :D

I'm so glad you liked the story :D There are the boys-- a little sad to be back on Earth, but still happy to be together-- cruising the country, trying to find their balance.</i> its, yeah thats what I was going for :D

I love that you incorperated everything in to it, the signs and the road, and everything they did, Joe and David happen to look exactly like John and Rodney, so its cool you used their picture ;D its what i imagin they would look like on Earth, on holiday too, and it fit perfectly :D I love the surf board (is that ancient on it? what does it say?) and the contrast, the ocean and the desert (and hee, Area 51: non exixtent area)

I love it, its just perfect :D Thank you so much!

*runs off to add to story*

:o) It took me some time to get all the elements together, but when I had found them it was surprisingly easy to put them all together in a collage.

The Ancient on the surfboard says: 'Puddlejumper'. John would totally put that on his surfboard-- he's a geek like that. :o)

As for Area 51-- man, you have no idea what strange things I found when I did a simple Google-search. It's enough to scare the crap out of someone-- if it were all true that is. :o)

I'm so happy that you like it. And you're very welcome-- it was my pleasure. :o)

Those are all so excellent sweetie!!!! I really love the last one- you seemed to have captured the American tourist-y thing really well....

[info]le_mot_mo

February 13 2008, 15:16:08 UTC 4 years ago

There is such a thing as an American tourist-y thing? *G* Ah, I've seen enough roadmovies to base a cover on and the fic painted such a clear picture that I had no trouble at all to create this cover.

Thank you hon! *smooch*

Oh, I love it! It's so pretty. So calming and peaceful and clear blue skies. I could really just stare at it all day.

I also love hearing about what you were thinking when you made it. And the longer I stare at this, it's almost like that moment between John and Rodney got picked up and moved into an open-air museum where we can watch them stumble along, holding each other up as they move through the field. Mmmm.

Thank you so much for making this!

February 13 2008, 15:20:24 UTC 4 years ago

Yay, I'm so glad you like it. It's bizarre how this one was created though-- I started out with the image of John and Rodney between flowers so I created the 'picture' of them and the flowers, but then I thought-- why not put this on an easel and surround it with... and so it grew and grew. :o)

the longer I stare at this, it's almost like that moment between John and Rodney got picked up and moved into an open-air museum where we can watch them stumble along, holding each other up as they move through the field.

In a sense, that's exactly what I was going for. The sense of peace and the love between the guys. So, I'm glad that worked out so well.

You're welcome!!! :o)

I really like the first two, especially the effect of the paint in the first one and the flowers meandering off the easel in the second one. The colors are lovely.

Thank you. I loved making those covers, so I'm glad that you like them.

I spent quite some time looking for the exact 'right' paint-effect for the first cover. For the second cover I spent a lot of time on everything, because the ideas just kept coming and coming and the image kept on growing. :o)
